The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has summoned the two warring factions of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for a troubleshooting meeting at the commission’s headquarters in Abuja.
The meeting, which is currently underway, brought together representatives of the Tanimu Turaki‑led faction and the Nyesom Wike‑backed Abdulrahman Mohammed faction to address the lingering leadership crisis in the opposition party.
Naijaonpoint learnt that some of those who accompanied Tanimu Turaki include members of his National Working Committee (NWC), secretariat staff, and former Niger State Governor, Babangida Aliyu.
Mohammed, on the other hand, was accompanied by members of his national caretaker committee, including its secretary, Senator Sam Anyanwu.
Meanwhile, the Nyesom Wike‑backed National Caretaker Committee of the PDP has dissolved the executives of 14 state chapters of the party and announced plans to conduct fresh congresses in January 2026.
The committee insisted that the leadership of Mohammed Abdulrahman and Senator Samuel Anyanwu, serving as Acting National Chairman and Acting National Secretary respectively, “remains the only legitimate national structure recognised by the party.”
This position was contained in a communiqué issued after the committee’s meeting held on Thursday evening in Abuja and read by the Acting Publicity Secretary, Haruna Jungun.
The development comes amid ongoing disagreements over the November 16 national convention in Ibadan, which was endorsed by PDP governors.
At that convention, Tanimu Turaki (SAN) and other members of the National Working Committee were elected for four‑year tenures, a move not recognised by the rival camp.
