Ndubuisi Kanu

An Ikeja High Court in Lagos State on Tuesday ordered Gladys Kanu, one of the three wives of late former Military Administrator of Lagos and Imo State, late Rear Admiral Ndubuisi, to serve the respondents an amended originating summons presented to the court within seven days.

The respondents in the suit are Kelly, Nigerian Navy, Simone Abiona (Nee Kanu) and Andrey Joe-Ezigbo (nee Kanu).

Others are Paula Ndidiamaka, Karen Johnson (Nee Kanu), Jeffery, Laura, Stephen, Josephine Ndubuisi-Kanu (wife) and Christine (wife).

Justice Christopher Balogun in his ruling orderedthe claimant’s counsel, Wale Adesokan (SAN), to serve the respondents the amended originating summon within seven days starting from today.

Balogun ruled: “The respondents are hereby given 14 days to file in their responses to the amended originating summon through their lawyers.”

The judge, who said that the case has not really started, noted that the only thing the court had been able to do was for the dead to be buried.

He said Adesokan had presented an amended application for the case to fully start.

He said: “The justice of the case is if you allow them to amend the originating suit so as to hear the case on the merit.

“It is not only the claimant that has something at stake.

“Your clients too also have something at stake.

“I will take the amended originating summon and if you also want to file an amended application, I will also take it because I am going to give everyone fair hearing in this case.”

Earlier in the proceedings, Adesokan had notified the court of a pending application dated  March 22 and prayed the court to add paragraphs 2b and c in the amended originating summon dated March 7 to the suit filed by the claimant.

The counsel to the first, third to the ninth respondents, O.A. Sodiimu, had presented a counter affidavit dated April 5 to oppose the amendment originating summon, adding that the claimant formulated a new case.

Gladys in a suit marked LD/3685FPM/2021 is seeking the Nigerian Navy to calculate the entitlements of the late Kanu into a bank account.

She is also seeking to be declared the only legal wife and sole widow of the deceased.

She said she and the deceased lived together until his death.

She noted that was married to him for 27 years but was in a relationship with him for 31 years.

Balogun adjourned the case until  May 12 for response on the amended summon.

JAMB statement on JAMB Result 2022

The statement reads: “To check the 2022 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) result, all a candidate needs to do is to simply send UTMERESULT to 55019 using the same phone number that he/she had used for registration and the result would be returned as a text message.  This is the only process of checking the 2022 UTME results for now as the Board has not uploaded it on its website for obvious reasons.

“In addition, candidates are forewarned that they would, as usual, receive all kinds of messages from desperate fraudsters on how to check their results different from the aforementioned one. Hence, the Board urges all candidates to ignore all such messages on how to check their 2022 UTME results as they are all products of deceit aimed at misleading them.

“The Board, in line with its desire to adhere to the ease of doing business protocol of the government, has emplaced this user-friendly and simplified process of checking UTME results. Furthermore, this simplified process would also serve to preclude the unconscionable exploitation of candidates by shylock business centres and cybercafés, which often take advantage of hapless candidates.

“The 2022 UTME began on Friday, 6th May 2022 and ended on Friday 13th May 2022,” the statement issued by JAMB on Saturday afternoon added.

Breaking: N80bn Money Laundering: EFCC arrests accountant-general

Published

Ahmed Idris e1527187008145

Nigeria’s Accountant-General, Ahmed Idris has been arrested over alleged money laundering and diversion of public funds.

Those familiar with the development said dris was intercepted in Kano by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Monday evening and is being flown to Abuja, the nation’s capital, for interrogation.

Sources said the EFCC has for sometime been investigating a case of diversion of at least N80 billion in public funds which was allegedly laundered through some bogus contracts.

The companies used in laundering the funds investigators said, have allegedly been linked to family members and associates of the accountant-general,.

Sources further said after progress was made in the investigation, Idris was summoned repeatedly for interrogation but he failed to honour the invitations.

“We kept inviting him but he kept dodging us,” one of our sources said. “We were left with no choice than to keep him under watch and arrest him.”

The spokesperson for the EFCC could not be reached to comment for his story. One of his subordinates said he is travelling in the United Kingdom at this time.

However, a top EFCC official confirmed the development but asked not to be named because he had no permission to discuss the matter with the media.

Uwujaren later issued a statement saying, “Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Monday, May 16, 2022 arrested serving Accountant General of the Federation, Mr. Ahmed Idris in connection with diversion of funds and money laundering activities to the tune of N80billion ( Eighty Billion Naira only).

“The Commission’s verified intelligence showed that the AGF raked off the funds through bogus consultancies and other illegal activities using proxies, family members and close associates.

“The funds were laundered through real estate investments in Kano and Abuja.

Mr Idris was arrested after failing to honour invitations by the EFCC to respond to issues connected to the fraudulent acts.”

President Muhammed Buhari appointed Idris accountant-general on June 25, 2015.

The position became vacant at the time after the former Accountant General, Jonah Otunla, left office on June 12, 2015.

President Buhari reappointed Idris for a second four-year term in June 2019, amid criticisms from labour groups who said the accountant-general should retire after turning 60.

Idris is a native of Kano State, North-west Nigeria. He was born on November 25, 1960, and was until his appointment in 2015 the Director of Finance and Accounts, Federal Ministry of Mines and Steel Development.
