The Federal Government has dismissed reports claiming that schools across the country will shut down on Monday, November 24, 2025, over rising insecurity.
The Ministry of Education said there is no nationwide closure directive, describing the viral message circulating online as completely false.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the Ministry clarified that the alleged announcement did not originate from the Federal Government, the Federal Ministry of Education, any State Ministry of Education, or any recognised security agency.
It stressed that Nigerians should disregard the claim and avoid spreading unverified messages.
The statement, signed by the Ministry’s spokesperson, Folasade Boriowo, cautioned the public to always rely on confirmed information from authorised channels.
According to the Ministry, “Any announcement, advisory, or notice coming from unofficial or unverified sources should be ignored and not shared. Members of the public are urged to always verify the authenticity of information before circulating it in order to curb the spread of misinformation.”
The Ministry further emphasised that only communications from relevant government authorities and security bodies should be regarded as authentic.
The clarification comes just a day after the Federal Government directed the closure of 41 Federal Unity Colleges located in high-risk zones following recent school attacks and abductions in parts of Niger and Kebbi States.
The decision heightened public anxiety, prompting the false narrative of a blanket nationwide shutdown.
In recent weeks, several states, including Kwara, Plateau, Katsina, and Niger, have temporarily closed some schools as a precaution.
Similarly, in Taraba State, Governor Agbu Kefas also instructed all public and private schools to deboard their students due to growing security threats.
Security concerns around schools have remained a major issue following repeated kidnappings of students in northern states.
Many parents have continued to express fear as authorities work to improve protection for learning centres across the country.
