The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has expressed concern over the spate of extrajudicial killings in the state.
In a statement by its spokesperson, Kola Olabisi, the party said it was worrisome that killings have persisted in the state.
“It is worrisome that Osun has become a killing field where human lives are wasted. This has made people from other states dread coming to Osun, as extrajudicial death appears to be the cheapest thing in the state,” the party stated.
The opposition party said the situation should give stakeholders sleepless nights.
“Just yesterday, Friday, two persons were reportedly killed at Oke-Baale area, near Ilesa Garage, Osogbo, in a cruel manner by unidentified hoodlums who used guns, machetes, knives and cudgels to snuff life out of the victims in a bizarre manner,” it added.
The APC said the security situation makes nonsense of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), which mandates government to protect lives and property.
“The Governor Ademola Adeleke-led administration should sit up and ensure that people of the state are not exposed to extrajudicial killings. The stigma and negative label this development has given the state is worrisome to all right-thinking members of society,” the party said.
The party also called on the police and other security agencies to redouble efforts to secure lives and property.
“Each time there is an extrajudicial killing, it simply translates to the fact that the state government and security agencies have failed in their constitutional responsibility.
“We shall not welcome any excuses for exposing the people of the state to extrajudicial killings, as the Constitution frowns at killing fellow human beings without going through the full judicial process,” the statement added.
