Instagram is rolling out a bunch of new features designed to make sharing feel more personal and interactive—without sacrificing your privacy. From reposting your favorite Reels to seeing what your friends are into, and even sharing your location (if you want), these updates are all about connection and choice.
Repost Your Favorite Reels and Posts
Ever seen a Reel or post that you just had to share with your followers? Now you can—easily. Instagram’s brand-new Repost feature lets you reshare any public Reel or feed post directly to your profile.
Here’s how it works:
- When you repost, your followers see it in their feed.
- It also goes into a Reposts tab on your profile so you can find and manage them later.
- Every repost automatically credits the original creator—so your friends (and even people who don’t follow you) can discover new accounts through your shares.
For creators, this means more visibility. For everyone else, it’s a smoother way to spread the content you love.
The New “Friends” Tab in Reels
Ever wonder what your friends are laughing at or obsessing over? The new Friends tab in Reels is basically your VIP pass to your circle’s favorite content.
Here, you’ll see:
- Public videos your friends have liked, commented on, or shared.
- Recommendations from any Blends you’re part of.
It’s perfect for sparking conversations, discovering trends, and staying in the loop with the people who matter most.
You can find it by tapping “Friends” at the top of Reels. Want to go back to the usual feed? Just tap “Reels” again.
Privacy check: You can choose to hide your likes/comments from the Friends tab or mute activity from certain people—so you stay in control.
Share Your Location (Only If You Want)
The Instagram Map is getting more personal. Now, you can (optionally) share your last active location with friends.
Here’s the good news:
- Location sharing is off by default.
- If you turn it on, you can choose who sees it—mutual followers, Close Friends, specific people, or no one at all.
- You can exclude certain people or places.
- You can switch it off anytime.
- It only updates when the app is open.
For parents using supervision features, there’s extra safety. If a teen turns on location sharing, parents get a notification, see who it’s shared with, and can decide whether location sharing stays on.
And it’s not just about sharing where you are—you can also explore posts from your friends and favorite creators based on location.
