At the “Its Glowtime” event Apple indicated that it will release the iOS 18.1 update to eligible iPhone devices in October 2024. This would be the first update to contain the first-ever stable version of “Apple Intelligence”.

iPhone 16 series to get Apple Intelligence via iOS 18.1 release in October 2024

At this year’s “Its Glowtime” event today, Apple launched the latest iPhone 16 series iOS smartphones. The company showed off its Artificial Intelligence-boosted iPhone 16, and claimed the “next generation of iPhone has been designed for Apple Intelligence from the ground up.”

Apple Inc.’s Chief Executive Tim Cook proclaimed the launch of the iPhone 16, “marks the beginning of an exciting new era.” However, the iPhone 16, the iPhone 16 Plus, the iPhone 16 Pro, and the iPhone 16 Pro Max do not have Apple Intelligence running on them.

Although these devices don’t have Apple’s Generative Artificial Intelligence (Gen AI) at the time of launch, they will soon get the iOS 18.1 update. This update should reportedly have Apple Intelligence.

Apple has indicated the Apple Intelligence features would launch in a software update to the iPhone and iPad operating system in October. In other words, iPhone 16 early adopters can expect Apple Intelligence to land on their devices as early as next month.

Will all iPhone devices getting the iOS 18.1 update get Apple Intelligence?

The iPhone 16 series devices pack the new A18 chip. It is a powerhouse, and users can expect blazing fast as well as smooth performance from their smartphones. However, this chip supports on-device Gen AI, and consequentially, can easily run all the new features with ease.

The iPhone 16 lineup is undoubtedly the first Apple smartphone series designed around Apple Intelligence. However, the top-end or flagship versions of the previous-generation iOS smartphones should get Apple’s Gen AI too.

Apple iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max can expect Apple Intelligence to land on their device with the iOS 18.1 update. Some reports suggest even the iPhone 14 Pro Max could support some Apple Intelligence features if not all. But, apart from the hardware, it would, also depend on Apple’s marketing strategy which might not unlock AI in older-generation devices.
