Is Disney World closing for Hurricane Ian? Florida airports, theme parks, cruise lines, more prepare as storm approaches!

Here’s a report on the state of things as of 11 a.m. ET Tuesday with several major theme parks, water parks, and other sites of interest to tourists:

Busch Gardens (Tampa)

“All admission tickets have been extended until December 31,” the park said. Also, “Pass member annual guest tickets that expire September 30 will be extended through October 16.”

Discovery Cove (Orlando)

The all-inclusive day resort with animal encounters and tropical aquatic venues is also closed on Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Parks said it will “reschedule or refund reservations booked online or from the call center. We will not apply any cancellation or change fees for this service.” You can call +1 407-513-4600 to find out more.

Disney World (Orlando)

Most Disney World properties remain open.

“Currently operating under normal conditions as we prepare to make necessary adjustments based on the latest information from the National Weather Service,” the resort said on its website.

However, some properties and units are closed. The following will be closed from Wednesday to Friday:

  • Disney Fort Wilderness Resort & the camp
  • Cooper Creek Cabin at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge
  • Treehouse Villas at Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa
  • Cottages at Disney’s Polynesia Village Resort

They are closed from Wednesday to Thursday:

  • Disney Typhoon Lagoon (Blizzard Beach is currently closed anyway)
  • Winter Summerland Miniature Golf and Fantasia Gardens Miniature Golf

Disney Springs, the shopping, dining, and entertainment district, remains open.

Universal Resort (Orlando)

The cinema-themed thrill park continues with normal theme park operations for now. The park’s severe weather policy does not include no-fee rescheduling or cancellation policies if closed.

“If a hurricane or tropical storm warning is issued by the National Hurricane Center or an emergency is declared for the Orlando area or your residence, within seven days of your arrival, you may contact our team in advance to reschedule or cancel Universal Parks The park said on its website that a vacation package, resorts, hotel room only, and Universal Orlando theme park tickets are booked directly with Universal Orlando without charging any cancellation or change fees.

Other amusement parks

CNN Travel has contacted SeaWorld Orlando and Legoland Florida via email for any updates. Neither of the parks responded, but the two parks’ websites indicate normal hours for Tuesday.

cruise ships

Florida ports have very active cruise schedules. Here’s the status of some of those ships’ routes as of 8:15 p.m. ET on Monday:

Norwegian Cruise Lines: The company changed five outlets on norwegian skythat departed Miami on Sunday, the cruise line told CNN. The ship was to arrive at the port of Georgetown, Grand Cayman; Roatan, Honduras; Harvest Kaye, Blaise; Cozumel is in the Western Caribbean and will now stop in San Juan, Puerto Rico; St. Thomas, Virgin Islands; Tortola, British Virgin Islands; Nassau, Bahamas, to avoid Ian Road.

“The safety and security of our guests and crew is always our number one priority. Due to the forecast path of Hurricane Ian, the Norwegian Sky itinerary has been revised to the following. Guests who have booked shore excursions at any of the affected ports via Norwegian Cruise have said:” Their flights will be refunded to their account on the plane.”

MSCA company spokesperson told CNN that the company changed course on at least one of its ships and was watching for potential changes to other ships. The MSC Seasidewhich was originally intended to be in the Western Caribbean has been rerouted to ports in the Eastern Caribbean.

The cruise line is watching too MSC Divinia, which departed Port Canaveral for a four-night sailing trip to Nassau and Ocean City Marine Preserve on Sunday. MSC says both cruise ports are off the expected course for Ian, but advised passengers before departure that conditions could prevent the ship from returning Thursday. The cruise line states that if there is a delay in their return, the cruise will be extended at no additional cost to the guests.

The cruise line does not expect Ian to affect MSC Seasidewhich is scheduled to depart from the Port of Miami on Saturday, October 1.

Carnival Cruise Lines: The company has made modifications to two of its cruises.

the ship ecstasy carnivalwho departed from Mobile, Alabama on Monday for a six-day sailing trip, will visit Progresso Mexico on Wednesday before heading to Cozumel on Thursday. The change rearranges visits, since the ship was scheduled to visit Cozumel first, the cruise line told CNN.

The glory carnival She left New Orleans on Sunday for an eight-day sailing trip and will now dock at Mahogany Bay, Roatan, Belize; and Cozumel, Mexico. The ship’s original itinerary was to visit Key West as well as Freeport and Nassau, Bahamas.

National and state parks

As of 11 a.m. ET Tuesday, Everglades National Park in South Florida remains open. The National Park Service has advised people to keep an eye on the latest weather updates before heading to the park, a wilderness area with not many evacuation routes.

Tampa International Airport

Tourists in Florida hoping to use Tampa International Airport need to get there as soon as possible.

The airport will suspend all operations starting at 5 p.m. Tuesday. The closure will allow the airport to prepare the airport, stations and other places for the approach of the hurricane.

The airport issued the following reminders:

  • Passengers should check their airlines for flight status updates. Those traveling on the Tuesday before the airport suspends operations are urged to arrive at least two hours before their flight.
