The lawmaker representing the Ogun West Senatorial District, Olamilekan Adeola, has stated that those responsible for the terrorism in the country are not Nigerians.
Speaking on Wednesday during plenary, Adeola lamented that international bodies might be involved in the decade-long security challenges facing the nation.
He was reacting to the worsening security crisis in Nigeria, especially the recent mass abduction of students and Christian worshippers.
Citing viral videos of helicopters allegedly dropping arms for terrorists in forests, the lawmaker wondered about the faces behind the supply of weapons to terrorists.
He said, “Nigeria is at war. These terrorists, the ISWAP group, Boko Haram, and others, are not known to our system. They are not Nigerians; they are coming to this country to disrupt our peace, and we can finger an international conspiracy in all of this.
“There are some videos where you will see a helicopter dropping arms. Where is the helicopter coming from?”
Meanwhile, A federal lawmaker, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, has condemned his colleagues in the National Assembly over their handling of the security crisis rocking the nation.
Speaking on Wednesday during plenary, Abaribe claimed that his colleagues often dwell on the past instead of focusing on the present.
He asserted that lawmakers from the ruling party always find ways to draw comparisons between the insecurity in 2025 and in 2015, when the PDP was in power.
He argued that this is not necessary as the two scenarios of insecurity are different.
Abaribe also took a swipe at President Bola Tinubu for failing to use his office as the ‘’Commander-In-Chief of the Armed Forces” to investigate the claims made by Kebbi state governor that a higher authority ordered troops to leave Maga village before the 25 school girls were abducted by bandits.
In his words ‘’We are being told every day to be patriotic. We are being told here that we shouldn’t say anything against…we are being told ‘ Oh you shouldn’t talk about the past and focus on the present’.
“Yet, on this floor, rather than focus on what we are supposed to talk about, we go back to say ‘Oh, during 2015, the Chibok girls happened, and oh, we are now rescuing people. People were not rescued at that time.’
“During Chibok, 17 local governments in Katsina were not having pallies with Bandits. People in Kebbi were not leaving all the rural areas and coming to only the urban areas to stay. People in Niger were not being kidnapped.
“So why do we at any time we need to talk about the present issues of today, go back to start to look for excuses for our failures of today.
“Let us do the right thing,. We are not blaming this government for what they are finding itself, but it is the government in power, and they should do the right thing.”
