Nigerian rapper, Folarin Falana popularly known as Falz has called on citizens to stop allowing tribal and religious differences to divide the country.
Naijaonpoint reports that in a post, the activist expressed concern over the growing use of religion and ethnicity to fuel hatred and conflict among Nigerians, saying it has caused deep pain over the years.
His comment followed a heated online argument between some Christian and Muslim youths after United States President Donald Trump threatened to launch a military intervention in Nigeria.
The threat, which he claimed was to rescue Christians from alleged attacks by Islamic extremists, sparked tension and renewed rivalry among young people on social media.
Falz urged Nigerians to rise above such sentiments and think independently rather than being manipulated by divisive narratives.
He wrote: “I cannot begin to explain how depressing it has been in recent years, seeing tribal and religious sentiments still being used to turn us against each other. At some point we need to start thinking for ourselves.”
In a similar vein, Nigerian skit maker Nasboi has called on citizens to look beyond tribal and religious divisions and demand accountability from those in power.
He expressed frustration over how Nigerians have remained silent despite several cases of corruption, recalling past incidents where public funds mysteriously went missing.
