Amina Mohammed, the United Nations (UN) Deputy Secretary-General has described President Bola Tinubu as a leader who was called by God to serve Nigerians.
Mohammed, a former Minister of Environment made this assertion during the award dinner at the Nigeria House in New York in commemoration of Nigeria’s 65th independence anniversary and the Independence Day Parade and Carnival.
Speaking at the event, the UN scribe said it was God who put Tinubu in the seat of power through the 2023 presidential election.
She also commended the president’s committment to tackling the challenges faced by the country and its people.
According to Mohammed, Tinubu, since assuming office has never complained about the challenges he inherited from the previous governments.
Also noting that Tinubu had, during the election campaign claimed that it was his turn to occupy the seat of the presidency, Mohammed said evidence showed that he fought hard to secure the position.
“But he also told us that he wasn’t going to complain about what he got. I have not heard him complain.
“People around him complain about what he inherited, but he doesn’t” Mohammed said.
She added that Tinubu, “is the President of Nigeria. It is God that put him on that seat. It is, therefore, incumbent upon us to get behind him and do the best we can for Nigeria, except you’re trying to tell me that God made a mistake.”
Further congratulating Nigerians on the nation’s attainment of its 65th Independence Day anniversary, the UN chief said she is confident of a bright future for Nigeria.
She noted that Nigeria is a work in progress and it is important for everyone to join in the process of nation-building with the hope of achieving the desired development.
“It doesn’t matter whether you are in the country or outside the country. If we get into the pull-down syndrome, then who else is going to pull us up?
“What else are we telling our children? What else are we telling people that we want as our partners?
“If we are the first people to say that we’re no good, we’re not good enough, and I hope that we just stop doing that. This is because Nigerians are the hardest working, most ambitious, and proud people,” Mohammed said.
