Nigerian singer and rapper, Olamide has declared that he sees Wizkid as the top Afrobeats act of this generation, placing him right after Fela Kuti.
Naijaonpoint reports that the Metaverse crooner revealed this while speaking to students at York University in Toronto on Thursday.
Olamide shared that he has worked with Wizkid for many years, starting from their early collaborations in 2011, and said their joint songs helped him understand Wizkid’s steady growth in the industry.
He pointed out that Wizkid’s work has carried Afrobeats into new parts of the world, and he believes this strong push makes him stand out.
His statement instantly stirred reactions inside the hall, as the students cheered loudly.
He said: “I’ve had the privilege of working with Wizkid, we’ve made so many songs together. You know say after Fela, Wizkid is the greatest Afrobeats Artiste ever.”
His comments come few days after he shared how the late DaGrin shaped his music and inspired many artistes across the country.
Naijaonpoint reports that he described DaGrin’s 2009 album C.E.O as a timeless project that continues to influence him rand other rappers.
Olamide in a viral video said the album is one of the few rap projects that many people in the South West can sing completely, making it a go-to source of motivation whenever creative ideas run low.
