Actress Iyabo Ojo has revealed the personal reasons behind her vocal support for comedienne Princess during the Baba Ijesha alleged rape case.
According to The Nation, speaking on The Goldroom with Iyabo, the actress shared that she had been molested multiple times in the past, and that her own experiences deeply influenced her reaction to the case.
“I really didn’t control my emotions then because I was outraged by what happened,” she said. “I think it’s because I was also coming from that part, where I had gone through whatever she went through multiple times… and I just felt like enough is enough.”
Iyabo said she was shocked by the way some adults twisted the narrative and even attacked the victim and Princess. She noted that this response showed how far Nigeria still has to go in protecting children and addressing abuse.
She also stressed the responsibility entertainers have to set a good example.
“You’ll notice when I kick, I kick when my fellow entertainers do wrong, because I feel like we are supposed to do right by our people,” she said. “We are also evangelists… we cannot be preaching and doing the same bad thing that we’re telling people is wrong.”
