Star from 2025’s smash-hit horror Sinners, Jack O’Connell, is gearing up to star in director Danny Boyle’s latest movie titled Ink.
As revealed in Deadline, the first photo of Boyle’s new movie has been revealed, showcasing O’Connell as the role of former editor of British newspaper The Sun, Larry Lamb. Guy Pearce is also in the feature as media giant Rupert Murdoch alongside Clare Foy.
Olivier award-winning playwright and screenwriter James Graham’s Tony-nominated play is used as the source and inspiration to Ink. It follows a group of visionaries and misfits who try to redefine news in an “explosive cinematic rollercoaster.”
James Graham has written the screenplay and the film will begin shooting soon. Boyle is reuniting with producer Tessa Ross following their critically acclaimed movie Slumdog Millionaire.
O’Connell is currently riding the high of the success of his career this year due to two extremely successful movies, 28 Years Later and Sinners. The actor is known for his roles in movies and series such as Skins, Lady Chatterley’s Lover, and Back to Black.
O’Connell will be appearing in other projects including, Pretty Boy Delaney, 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, and Godzilla x Kong: Supernova.
British filmmaker Boyle is known for high energy and bold imagery in such films as Trainspotting, 28 Days Later, and Sunshine. He also directed O’Connell’s latest role in 28 Years Later, which was only a cameo, but is expected to be a major role in the follow-up The Bone Temple.
Reviews of Graham’s play, the movie Ink is based on, had glowing reviews including “a pivotal moment in newspaper history – when the idea that popular papers had a mission to inform, as well as entertain, was famously burned by The Sun.”
This is Boyle’s second biopic after his dedication to the late tech icon Steve Jobs released in 2015. Steve Jobs, starring Michael Fassbender, Kate Winslet, and Seth Rogan, has an impressive Rotten Tomatoes score of 85%. Unfortunately, the movie didn’t perform well at the box office.
Pearce is known for his Memento, The Brutalist, and The Hurt Locker. He is set to appear in Ridley Scott’s new movie The Dog Stars alongside Jacob Elordi, Josh Brolin, and Margaret Qualley, which will be released next year.
There’s no official release date for Boyle’s upcoming biopic Ink, but filming is expected to begin fairly soon.
