The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) on Tuesday disclosed that the highest scorer in the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), got a score of 375 out of a possible 400.
JAMB identified the candidate as Okeke Chinedu Christian from Anambra State.
Naijaonpoint reports the disclosure was made by JAMB Registrar, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, during the 2025 Policy Meeting held in Abuja.
He added that the top scorer had selected the University of Lagos as his first-choice institution, with the intention of studying Mechanical Engineering.
Also, the board revealed Ayuba Simon-Peter John from Gombe State, who scored 374 and chose Afe Babalola University (ABUAD) as his first choice, also to study Mechanical Engineering as the second-best-placed candidate from the 2025 UTME, while in third place is Jimoh Abdulmalik Olayinka from Kwara State, who scored 373.
He, too, selected the University of Lagos and applied for Mechanical Engineering.

Meanwhile, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has reaffirmed that the minimum age for admission into Nigeria’s tertiary institutions remains 16 years.
This declaration was made during the 2025 Policy Meeting on Admissions, held on Tuesday at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja, where top officials from universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education gathered to deliberate on guidelines for the new academic session.
Speaking at the event, the Board disclosed that the age requirement is enforced via the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS) and even accommodates candidates who will turn 16 by August 31, 2025.
However, JAMB expressed concern over what it described as “illegal backdoor admissions” conducted by some institutions.
