DC Studios President James Gunn revealed that he formed a brain trust to help plot out the overarching story of the DC Universe – and that group consisted of some of the biggest fan-favorite film and/or TV writers! As confirmed to reporters during the DC Studios presentation, Drew Goddard (Cloverfield, Cabin in the Woods), Jeremy Slater (Moon Knight), Christina Hudson (Flash, Batgirl, Birds of Prey), Crystal Henry (HBO’s guards), and comics writer Tom King (Batman, Batman/Catwoman) all contributed to helping create the Data Control Unit (DCU).
James Gunn let members of the press know a few more details about how the brain trust in DC Studios has come together, and what it’s done for the franchise:
“Listen, Tom King has been my partner throughout all of this… He was giving me answers to sh*t before I took the job when I was talking to him that summer. Me, him, Crystal Henry, who worked on watch manwho was doing WallerChristina Hodson, who wrote: Sparkle…Drew Goddard, who you guys probably know…”
DC Studios Co-President Peter Safran added, “And Jeremy Slater who just did it Moon Knightthat group of people that we met and put all this together with that group of people.”
Some of the DCU’s brain-confidence talent is already moving on to help work on TV/movie projects for DC Studios: Crystal Henry will be taking over Waller The series, which continues Gunn’s The Suicide Squad saga, takes place between Peacemaker seasons 1 and 2. It wouldn’t be surprising if other members of the brain trust were announced for future DCU projects.
What’s on DC Studios’ new slate?
The first chapter of the DCU will be titled “Gods & Monsters” and will do a two-fold job of introducing both types of characters to the franchise. Include big movies Superman: Legacy, Batman: The Brave and the Bold, Swamp Thing, And the team movie Authority. The HBO Max DC TV series will include shows like Lanterns, Creature Commandos, Gold Booster, Waller, And Paradise Lost. There is also a Supergirl project under construction, which will take on a science fiction overtone. On the surface, a lot of these projects seem to be in very separate lanes – so it’s interesting to hear Gunn and Safran insist that this version of the franchise will be more cohesive, and that these choices were the result of some of the genre’s most talented minds in entertainment coming together. .
