The backlash around Nelly performing at Donald Trump’s inauguration has died down but during a recent performance, Janelle Monaé let it be known that she has not forgotten.
Janelle hopped on stage at Anderson .Paak’s Grammy Awards afterparty, where the band was playing Nelly’s “Hot in Herre,” but the singer went off on a tangent and unleashed a scathing freestyle.
“I used to like Nelly, but then he went to perform for Donald Trump/ F-ck that n-gga, don’t give a f-ck/ I’m with my family and ain’t nobody gonna hate on us/ I care about women, I care about Hispanics, I care about Spanish people/ I care about Black people, I care about gay people,” she rapped.
“F-ck you Nelly, you sold out/ I used to think he was cool, but now you look like a muthaf-ckin fool/ Going to the inauguration to participate with some n—a who don’t give a f-ck about how you feeling/ I don’t care what you really saying/ I might be a little tipsy but I know everything that I’m saying!”
Nelly claimed that it was an honor to perform for any president and denied selling out for a check.
