Jason Statham’s upcoming action thriller movie Mutiny has confirmed its new release date following a major delay. The new Statham movie, directed by Jean-François Richet, tells the story of Cole Reed (Statham), who witnesses his billionaire boss getting murdered and is framed for the crime. He boards a cargo ship to get his revenge, only to uncover a deeper mystery.
Now, Deadline confirms Mutiny will be released in theaters on August 21, 2026. The action film was originally meant to be released in January 2026, before getting delayed to an unknown date on Lionsgate’s schedule. It was later reported the movie was eyeing a summer 2026 release window, something this new release date confirms for the Statham-led movie.
Mutiny will be the latest in a long line of films Statham’s starred in under Lionsgate’s banner. Most notable is The Expendables movies, with his last film under the production company being Expend4bles in 2023. He’s also starred in The Transporter and Crank franchises from them, with this latest action movie being the newest in their long-standing relationship.
Alongside Statham, other starring cast members for Mutiny include Arnas Fedaravičius, Adrian Lester, Roland Møller, Ramon Tikaram, Annabelle Wallis, and Jason Wong. As for the screenplay, it was penned by J.P. Davis, best known for the 2004 sports drama Fighting Tommy Riley, and Lindsay Michel in her feature film writing debut. It’s also Richet’s first movie since 2023’s Plane.
The action movie is one of many that Statham will be starring in soon. His next film is the Ric Roman Waugh-directed action thriller Shelter, which he’ll star in alongside Bill Nighy. The movie will be released in theaters on January 30, 2026. However, he’s also starring in The Beekeeper 2, the sequel to his hit 2024 action movie.
In addition, Statham is expected to reprise his role as Deckard Shaw in the final Fast & Furious movie. However, no release date has been revealed. For now, Mutiny is the second upcoming movie on the actor’s docket with a release date. While it’ll be competing with Blumhouse’s next Insidious movie, the differences in genre may aid its box office performance.
