Jeremy Allen White elaborates more about his initial comments on auditioning for the Marvel Cinematic Universe franchise. On November 13, 2023, The Bear star revealed in an interview with GQ that “I think I played it all wrong,” while he had asked Marvel executives to “tell me about why I should do your movie,” but he is now backtracking on how he handled the situation.
During his appearance on the Happy, Sad, Confused podcast, the 34-year-old actor admitted, “That was out of line. That was, again, me sort of not being entirely invited to the party, and being, like, ‘I don’t even wanna go anyway.'” White elaborated that “Yes, I had a meeting that I probably could have handled differently, for sure.”
The Shameless veteran shared how “I think I was just… First of all, it’s not a bag on the genre, as much as it is, like, I don’t know what I can give to it, really, or how I fit into it.” He also commented on how the superhero films have had a different impact on an actor’s career: “Also, I think there was a period where being in one of those films guaranteed you [could] get any movie made.”
The Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere star stressed that “if you find a script on the street and you take that around to people, and you love it, you can get it made, and I just don’t know if that’s how it’s working anymore.” It’s still unknown what project in the MCU timeline he had met with Marvel Studios about.
While he didn’t board the franchise back then, Allen was told about how many audience members have been wanting to see him as the next Wolverine after Hugh Jackman, who returned in 2024’s Deadpool & Wolverine. Not having known about it previously, he said, “Oh, that’s nice, man, yeah. I mean, [Hugh Jackman]… That performance is great.”
Praising Jackman for how “he’s done it for so long, he’s really excellent,” Allen concluded by saying, “That’s nice. I’m not a big superhero-movie guy, but ‘X-Men’ was the big — correct me if I’m wrong, but that was, like… those were the early ones and so, of course I loved all those movies, yeah.” At this time, it’s unclear if Logan is showing up in the upcoming MCU movies in the next two years.
However, a reboot for the mutants is on its way, as Marvel Studios is currently developing the X-Men movie from Jake Schreier, although it has yet to be revealed if Wolverine (whether it’s Jackman or a new actor) will be part of it. Casting has yet to start, as no release date for the MCU project has been set either.
