THE Governor of Jigawa State, Umar Namadi has set N70,000 as the new minimum wage for civil servants.
He announced this decision at the Jigawa State Government House in Dutse after receiving a report from the committee on minimum wage.
Governor Namadi stressed the importance of fair compensation for the state’s workforce.
“Following the committee’s report on the minimum wage, we have decided to pay our workers N70,000 as the new minimum wage,” he said.
He affirmed the government’s commitment to the welfare of civil servants, emphasizing that this decision was made after careful consideration of the economic situation and the state’s financial capacity.
“We recognize the increasing cost of living, and we believe this raise will help ease the financial burden on our workers,” the governor added.
The announcement has been well received by civil servants in Jigawa, who had been anticipating a wage increase.
Governor Namadi assured the public that the new wage would be implemented promptly and that measures would be taken to ensure a smooth transition.
The committee on minimum wage, responsible for reviewing the state’s salary structure, commended the governor for his prompt action.
Their report considered factors such as inflation and the need to maintain a motivated workforce.
This development aligns with efforts across various states to address wage adjustments amid rising inflation and demands for improved living standards for workers.
Earlier this year, President Bola Tinubu approved an increase to N70,000 from the previous N30,000 as the minimum wage nationwide.
