Jos Lights Up As Governor Mutfwang Defects To APC

Jos, the capital of Plateau State, is alight with celebration today as Governor Caleb Mutfwang officially defects from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The high‑profile defection ceremony is being held at the Polo Ground in the heart of the ancient city, where top APC leaders are expected to receive the governor.

Vice President Kashim Shettima is set to lead the APC delegation at the event, which will also be attended by APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, Former Plateau Governor, Simon Lalong and members of the Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF), led by Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma

Governor Mutfwang will be presented with the APC flag along with his deputy, Josephine Piyo, as well as House of Assembly members, commissioners, advisers, local government chairmen, and other former PDP chieftains.

By joining the APC, the governor automatically becomes the party’s state leader, expected to drive mobilisation during the ongoing e‑membership registration exercise.

The Director of Media and Public Affairs to the governor, Dr Gyang Bere, told reporters that residents are elated about the defection because of its “implications for development.”

He said the move would unite the North‑Central region and forge a partnership capable of addressing long‑standing developmental concerns, particularly infrastructure and security.

“The move would unite the North‑Central and result in a marriage that will herald solutions to developmental challenges, including infrastructural development and security,” Bere said.

He added that the defection would also bring the Federal Government and Plateau closer and rekindle public confidence in the Renewed Hope Agenda of the ruling administration.

“The advantages of greater federal support and internal harmony are enormous,” Bere stated.
