An Atlanta judge has declined a prosecutors’ request to revoke Young Thug’s probation following a viral social media post that prosecutors say was used to threaten and intimidate a witness.
“Since sentencing, the Defendant has engaged in conduct that threatens the safety of witnesses and prosecutors, compromises ongoing legal proceedings, and warrants immediate revocation of probation,” prosections wrote in the motion, adding that “the integrity of this court and the safety of those involved in this prosecution are at stake.”
Fulton County Superior Court Judge Paige Reese Whitaker reviewed the filing and disagreed with the prosecution.
“While the Court does not find that the cited social media post rises to the level of a violation of Defendant’s probation, it may be prudent for Defendant to exercise restraint regarding certain topics,” she wrote in her filing.
Young Thug secured his release from jail last October by accepting a plea deal that sentenced him to time served and 15 years of probation. This agreement comes with several severe conditions.
He is banned from entering the Metro Atlanta area for the next decade and must also refrain from making any gang references in his music or on social media platforms. He is also barred from contacting any of his co-defendants, with exceptions made for his brother Quantavious “Unfoonk” Grier and Gunna, who is signed to his label, and he is required to complete 100 hours of community service annually and deliver anti-gang and anti-gun violence presentations in schools.
Lastly, the rapper must submit to random drug tests throughout his probation period, and violation of any of the terms could result in him being ordered to serve the complete 20-year prison sentence.
