Popular gospel singer and worship minister, Victoria Orenze, has made some revelations in her emotional message to Nigerians amid the incessant killings in the country.
Lamenting the state of the nation, Orenze warned that the country is inching dangerously close to divine judgment due to widespread wickedness, corruption and selfishness.
In a lengthy video message shared on Wednesday (today) via her 𝕏 handle, Orenze said she cried throughout the night, not only because of the attack on a Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) congregation in Kwara, the abduction of schoolgirls in Kebbi, or the killing of Brigadier General M. Uba, but because Nigeria’s crisis did not begin today.
“I have cried my heart out. I have cried my eyes, my heart out all night,” she said. “And I wasn’t just crying because of the CAC live stream we all saw in Kwara or the abducted girls or the Brigadier General. I’ve been crying before the Buhari government.”
‘We Heard the Warnings Years Before Buhari’ – Orenze Recalls Early Alerts on Killings in the North
Orenze narrated that long before the previous administration led by late President Muhammadu Buhari, her pastor had repeatedly warned Christian leaders in Lagos about the killings, banditry and attacks spreading across Kaduna, Borno and Jos.
“My pastor came to Lagos and told us what was happening in the north… how people have been killed and the banditry, everything,” she recalled.
“Some listened. Majority said it’s not that bad. If worst comes to worst, they will relocate.”
The singer lamented that many Nigerians, including church leaders, had favoured personal comfort over collective survival.
“For some of us, we don’t have where to relocate to, not because we don’t have options, but we have chosen our land,” she said.
Orenze accused religious figures of complicity in the nation’s decay, saying many had traded their conscience for material gain.
“Even in the church, tribal evil exists, very strong,” she stated. “Many have sold their soul, their heart, their voice, their conscience for what they will eat, what they will drink, the car they will buy.”
She warned that no position, church, mosque or shrine, would shield anyone from divine judgement.
“When judgement comes, whether you are in church, in mosque, in shrine, judgement is coming for everyone who contributes to wickedness in Nigeria,” she said.
‘I Saw Nigeria Surrounded by Armed Men’
The singer recounted a vision she said she had before Buhari became president.
“In that vision, the whole of Nigeria was on a massive highway surrounded by thick forest. There were armed men in the forest,” she said.
“While Nigerians were celebrating their new leader, a signal was given, an open fire. It was gory.”
According to her, the EndSARS tollgate shooting brought that vision to life.
“We saw what we saw online. They told us what we saw was AI. Our judiciary system said nothing happened,” she said.
“But we saw it.”
I Made a Vow Not to Pass Lekki Tollgate Again
Speaking further, Orenze revealed that she was physically present at the Lekki Tollgate on the day of the shooting and narrowly escaped.
“I made a vow from that day not to pass that tollgate, and for five years going now, I’ve not,” she said.
“This is my rebellion… every time I remember those that were killed, I curse evil in this land.”
Orenze condemned what she called a culture of selective outrage, short-lived resolutions, and tribal divisions that feed national instability.
“We are selfish. In the church, we’re selfish. Everywhere, we are selfish,” she said.
“Until we drop our selfishness and repent as a people—in church and outside church, we cannot help ourselves.”
She insisted there were Christian killings in the country despite those who deny it.
“How long will you deny it? There is Christian killing. There are other killings too, but there is Christian killing,” she emphasised.
The gospel singer criticised attempts to absolve the current administration by blaming predecessors.
“I don’t like to hear that this present government inherited the problem,” she said.
“We were fully aware when this present government told us Buhari was backed up. Who backed him up? Why are we not taking responsibility?”
She argued that political actors responsible for past decisions must own up.
“Who are the people that prepped him and made him look like the Messiah?” she asked.
‘Judgement Is Coming’: Orenze Warns Those Involved in National Wickedness
Orenze concluded with a stern spiritual warning, invoking a Yoruba proverb: “God is set to rain vengeance. Only those that are with Him will be spared.”
She defined “those with Him” as Nigerians who refuse to partake in national wickedness, whether in government, church leadership, or civil life.
“If your hand is in evil—whether behind or in front—you will reap what you sow,” she warned.
“This nation belongs to the Lord. Those that refuse for it to prosper will either drown and die, or repent.”
We Won’t Stop Speaking, Praying or Acting – Says Orenze
Defending her activism, Orenze said Nigerians must combine prayer with action.
“We don’t just pray. We don’t just speak. We act,” she said.
“We will pray. We will speak. We will act. And we will remove tribal sentiment.”
Orenze urged citizens to reject silence, insisting that individual success cannot flourish in a broken nation.
“If there is no nation at peace, whatever you amount to cannot succeed,” she warned. “Since you’ve chosen not to repent, watch. Except there is no God.”
Ending her message, she prayed, “God bless you. And God console all. In Jesus’ name.”
