A new casting update for Jumanji 4 confirms whether Nick Jonas and Danny DeVito are returning. It’s been nearly sixyears since the last Jumanji movie, The Next Level, was released in 2019. After years of updates, the franchise’s fourth installment is finally underway after the cast had their first table read, thanks to a post from Dwayne Johnson.

With Jumanji 4 expected to start filming soon, a casting report from The Hollywood Reporter reveals that Nick Jonas and Danny DeVito are reprising their roles as Jefferson “Seaplane” McDonough and Edward “Eddie” Gilpin, respectively. In addition, Bebe Neuwirth, Lamorne Morris, Marin Hinkle, and Rhys Darby are also returning for the new sequel. The new additions are Dan Hildebrand and Jack Jewkes.

Jonas’ return means that he will feature in all three movies from the reboot era, where he portrayed the pilot, “Seaplane,” in the video game. Darby’s return also means that his games’ guide, Nigel Billingsley, will likely once again assist the four players. As for the characters in the real world, DeVito portrayed Spencer’s grandfather, Eddie, who entered the games as Johnson’s avatar. Hinkle also played Spencer’s mother.

The main quartet (Johnson, Jack Black, Kevin Hart, and Karen Gillan) will once again reprise their avatars in the video game world. However, the fourth entry will mark the final time that the stars will be together after Johnson had confirmed in his post that Jumanji 4 would be the last, saying:

What a massive, fun, heartfelt adventure. Feels emotionally appropriate for our beloved JUMANJI franchise to end on this beautiful grace note of our final film.

As of writing, details about the script are still under wraps, and there has yet to be a confirmed title for the fourth installment. The Next Level ending hinted that the game could collide with the real world, but it’s unclear if the avatars will become real-world characters or interact with their real-world personas. A cast update in October confirmed that Alex Wolff, Madison Iseman, Ser’Darius Blaine, and Morgan Turner, who all played the real-world characters, are expected to return.

Jumanji 4 is scheduled to be released on December 11, 2026, which is upholding a tradition. The previous two installments were also dropped in December of their respective years.
