A Memphis basketball player has been charged by Bowling Green campus police with assault after punching a Falcons player in the handshake line after the women’s NIT game, according to the Bowling Green athletic department.
The confrontation came after Bowling Green beat Memphis on Thursday night.
As the teams marched toward center court after Bowling Green’s 73-60 win in their Round of 16 game, Jumeirah Shots of Memphis stopped by to chat with Falcons player Elisa Britt. After a short conversation, Shutes appears to throw a punch in Brett’s face. Brett fell towards the scorer’s table and onto the sideline.
Video of the incident showed Schutz’s teammate quickly grabbing her and escorting her off the field while Brett’s teammates checked on her.
There was no immediate word on the cause of the confrontation or that any players were seriously injured.
Bowling Green said in a statement that the incident was in the hands of campus police.
“The incident that occurred after tonight’s WNIT game has been turned over to the BGSU Police Department,” the school said. “Bowling Green State University athletics does not make comments about active police investigations. Our priority is the health, safety, and support of our student-athletes.”

Bowling Green coach Robin Fraalich He did not comment directly on the incident after the game, saying only that they were “figuring out all that stuff”, as far as the handshake line went.
The Memphis athletics department said Friday that the incident was “deeply unfortunate and certainly does not align with or represent our expectations for our programs and student-athletes.”
“Because the incident occurred after the match, jurisdiction rests with the local authorities, and we are fully cooperating with their actions,” the statement said. “In order to respect this process, we will not comment further until it is complete.”
Memphis Business Journal Appeal mentioned That Schutz, who leads the Tigers in scoring, elbowed her in the face with 24 seconds left in the first quarter and played only eight minutes in the first half. She returned to start the second half.

Shots, a fifth-year player who finished with 13 points in her final game with the Tigers, was a second-team All-AAC selection this season.
Brett scored 15 pointsincluding 13 in the third quarter, in the win.
Bowling Green will play Florida next Monday in the WNIT Great 8 Championship.
