The political rivalry between Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, and his predecessor, Gbenga Daniel, has deepened following the sealing of the former governor’s Sagamu residence and luxury hotel by the state government.
Naijaonpoint understands that officials from the Sagamu Zonal Planning Office, on Monday, stormed Gbenga Daniel’s Asoludero Court mansion and nearby Conference Hotel, removing earlier contravention and quit notices pasted on Friday and replacing them with fresh sealing and demolition notices.
According to The People’s Gazette, eyewitnesses revealed that the officials, who arrived in government-branded vehicles, did not notify occupants before pasting the new notices.
They reportedly left in a hurry after the action.
Abiodun’s Campaign Poster Sparks Fresh Tension
In what residents described as a political provocation, a large campaign poster of Governor Abiodun announcing his 2027 Ogun East Senatorial bid has been mounted directly opposite Daniel’s residence.
The move comes just two days after Governor Abiodun dismissed claims that the enforcement exercise was politically motivated, calling such insinuations “unfounded.”
Daniel, who currently represents Ogun East at the Senate, hails from the same zone as the governor. Both men are expected to clash for the APC senatorial ticket in 2027.
Political insiders said the latest development signals a full-blown battle for control of the Ogun East seat.
Daniel backed Abiodun’s successful 2019 governorship bid, but their relationship has since deteriorated, with loyalists on both sides openly clashing.
“We’ve never seen anything like this since 1999,” a Sagamu community leader told People’s Gazette on condition of anonymity.
“It is as if the 2027 elections have already started.”
Contravenwtion Notice Cites Planning Law
Documents sighted by The Gazette show that the Ogun State Planning and Development Permit Authority issued a Notice of Contravention and Notice to Quit on Friday for both properties.
The notices, numbered 00049514 and 00047714, were served around 4:00 p.m., citing the Ogun State Urban and Regional Planning and Development Law No. 61 of 2022.
The state alleged that the hotel was built without a planning permit and lacked adequate setbacks or approvals, describing its status as “completed and in use.”
It ordered that the contravention be removed within three days or face demolition.
The appearance of Governor Abiodun’s campaign poster close to Mr Daniel’s property has further fuelled speculation that the sealing was politically motivated.
For many Sagamu residents, the face-off is no longer about urban planning laws but a sign that the APC’s internal battle for Ogun East in 2027 has already begun.
