A broadcast journalist with Arise News, Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu, has passed away.

Naijaonpoint reports that Maduagwu was killed in the early hours of Monday during an armed robbery attack at her residence in Katampe, Abuja.

Confirming the demise in a statement on Monday, the management of Arise News described the deceased as “a vibrant voice that engaged and connected with our viewers” and “a cherished member of the Arise News family.”

The media management also demanded an investigation regarding the tragic incident.

The statement signed by Hadiza Usman-Ajayi for management added, “It is with heavy hearts that the management and staff of the Arise News Channel announce the passing of our beloved colleague, News Anchor, Reporter and Producer, Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu.

“Sommie tragically passed away in the early hours of Monday, September 29, 2025, following an armed robbery incident in her residence in Katampe area of Abuja that is being investigated by the Nigeria Police.

“Sommie’s voice is now silent but her spirit, passion and legacy will endure as part of our collective memory. We remain in shock and call for a speedy investigation, apprehension and prosecution of the culprits.”

Maduagwu’s colleagues at Arise News also expressed deep grief over her passing, recalling her warmth, infectious energy, and tireless commitment to the newsroom.

The late journalist is survived by her parents, siblings, and extended family.

Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced in the coming days.
