Former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, has urged his supporters in Kebbi State to avoid making statements that could increase political tension ahead of the 2027 elections.
In a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media, Mohammed Doka, Malami advised musicians, influencers, and political loyalists to stop using abusive language or making personal attacks.
“I want to appeal to our teeming supporters to focus on issue-based discourse when engaging the public. Their statements should be constructive, not ones that could undermine our democracy and the unity of Nigeria,” Malami said.
Doka described Malami as a peaceful and law-abiding citizen who will not support any act that could disturb the peace in Kebbi State.
There has been growing speculation that Malami may contest against the current governor of Kebbi State, Nasir Idris, in the 2027 election. Though Malami played a major role in Idris’s rise to power, the two are now viewed as political opponents.
His recent appeal for calm came after some of his loyalists, including musicians and social media influencers, were accused of posting offensive and provocative content online.
It can be recalled that Malami earlier took a swipe at Senator Umaru Tanko Al-Makura’s CPC faction within the APC, following their declaration of loyalty to President Bola Tinubu and rejection of defection ahead of 2027.
Malami has also drawn closer to former Kaduna governor Nasir El-Rufai, now a member of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), fueling speculation that he may soon exit the APC.
