Peter Nwaoboshi, a former senator representing Delta North Senatorial District, is dead.
He was aged 68.
Nwaoboshi passed away on Friday in Abuja after a brief illness.
His death was confirmed in a condolence statement issued by Delta State governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, who described the loss as monumental to Delta State, the Anioma nation, and Nigeria as a whole.
In a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Festus Ahon, the governor expressed deep sorrow over the former lawmaker’s passing, hailing him as a “fearless advocate” of the Anioma cause and a committed nation builder.
Governor Oborevwori recalled Nwaoboshi’s impactful tenure in the Senate, particularly his role as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Niger Delta Affairs, noting that his consistent advocacy for the development of the oil-producing region distinguished him as a passionate and principled leader.
“On behalf of the government and people of Delta State, I mourn the passing of my dear friend, Senator Peter Onyelukachukwu Nwaoboshi,” the governor said.
“I extend my heartfelt condolences to his immediate family, the people of Anioma nation, members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and all those whose lives he touched. I pray that Almighty God grant his soul eternal rest.”
Nwaoboshi was first elected to the Senate in 2015. Before his elevation to the National Assembly, he served two terms as Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Delta State, where he played a key role in consolidating the party’s dominance in the state.
