Terrorists suspected to be fighters from the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) have reportedly ambushed a Nigerian military convoy in northeastern Nigeria, killing several soldiers and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF).

According to HumAngle, the insurgents also abducted a serving Brigade Commander along with other military personnel.

The attackers, described as heavily armed and highly organised, allegedly carried out the strike in a coordinated manner, leaving a trail of casualties and panic across the region.

If verified, this would mark the first time an extremist group in Nigeria has successfully captured a serving General directly from the frontline.

The Nigerian Army has yet to issue an official statement on the attack or confirm the status of the abducted officer.

Senator Ali Ndume, representing Borno South, had earlier condemned the renewed wave of terrorist attacks in his constituency, calling the situation “deeply worrisome” and unacceptable.

The lawmaker highlighted that four farmers were recently murdered by Boko Haram while working on their farmlands in Kwam village, near the Dille community in Askira-Uba Local Government Area.
