Several filling stations across Abuja have reduced the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), popularly known as fuel or petrol, as the landing cost of petrol dropped further below the Dangote Refinery’s ex-depot price, causing fresh price adjustments in the retail market.
Findings by journalists on Wednesday, November 5, revealed that major marketers, including NIPCO, AA Rano, Eterna, and Empire Energy, have adjusted their pump prices downward in various locations across the Federal Capital Territory.
According to Daily Post, checks by reporters showed that NIPCO and AA Rano filling stations reduced their pump price to ₦940 per litre, down from the previous ₦950-₦955 range.
Similarly, Eterna now sells at ₦945, while Empire Energy dispenses at ₦955, down from ₦955 and ₦959, respectively.
This means petrol prices in Abuja have dropped by ₦4 to ₦10 per litre, depending on the station.
It was reported earlier that NNPCL Retail also adjusted its pump price down to ₦945, from ₦955 per litre. Despite the price drops, other stations, such as MRS (Dangote Petrol) and Ranoil, maintained their pump prices at ₦950 and ₦955 per litre as of Thursday morning.
An MRS station manager, who spoke anonymously, said the station may review its price later in the day.
“We may reduce our price in the evening or so, but at the moment we still dispense fuel at ₦950 per litre,” he said.
Landing Cost Drops to ₦827.04 Per Litre
Naijaonpoint reports that the latest adjustment follows newly released energy market data showing that the landing cost of petrol fell to ₦827.04 per litre as of November 3, 2025.
This figure represents a drop from ₦829.77 recorded at the end of October.
A breakdown of ex-depot prices shows:
- Dangote Refinery – ₦872
- Pinnacle – ₦872
- NIPCO – ₦870
- BOVAS – ₦870
- Aiteo – ₦870
- AA Rano – ₦870
This means Dangote’s ex-depot rate is at least ₦2 more expensive than depot operators such as NIPCO, AA Rano, and BOVAS.
More significantly, the current landing cost of ₦827.04 is ₦44.96 cheaper than Dangote Refinery’s ₦872 per litre ex-depot price.
Naijaonpoint reports that the developments come shortly after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu approved a 15 per cent import duty on petrol and diesel, aimed at encouraging local refining and boosting Dangote Refinery’s competitiveness.
Marketers and industry stakeholders say the tariff hike, when implemented, will likely raise the cost of imported fuel, making local supplies relatively more attractive.
Industry analysts note that unless Dangote adjusts its pricing to match the falling landing cost, more filling stations may continue to revise pump prices downward, especially those sourcing from cheaper depots.
