Again, the National electricity grid has collapsed for the third time this week, plunging the entire country into a blackout.

NaijaOnPoint.com.ng (NOP) reports that Nigeria, on Monday at about 6:48 pm, was thrown into darkness after the first collapse.

The second collapse occurred on Tuesday, when the Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) in a statement confirmed that there was a system failure, less than a day after Monday’s incident.

“Dear Valued Customer, please be informed that there was a system collapse at 09:17 hrs, leading to a loss of power supply across our network. We are working closely with our partners and expect a speedy restoration of the grid. Updates will be provided as soon as power is restored,” the statement read.

In the latest collapse, data from the national grid website show the grid suffered a major setback at about 8:40am on Saturday, 19th October, 2024.

Despite extensive investments worth billions of naira in the energy sector, Nigeria continues to struggle with unreliable electricity supply.
