Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, the Olubadan of Ibadanland, has passed away just days after celebrating his 90th birthday.
This newspaper gathered that the revered monarch, who ascended the throne in July 2024, died in the early hours of Monday, July 7, 2025, marking the end of a short but symbolic reign that lasted just one year.
Born on July 5, 1935, Oba Olakulehin had only recently marked his milestone birthday before his sudden passing.
Oba Owolabi Olakulehin ascended the throne from the chieftaincy rank of Balogun Olubadan, following the passing of Oba (Dr.) Moshood Lekan Balogun, Alli Okunmade II, who died at the age of 81 on March 14, 2024.
The late king was officially presented with his staff of office by the Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, on July 12, 2024, and was installed as the 43rd Olubadan of Ibadanland.
