The Nigeria Police Force has arrested a popular TikTok content creator, Ishaq Abubakar Major, over a reported viral video in which he accused the lawmaker representing Bauchi South Senatorial District, Senator Shehu Buba, of having ties to bandit groups.

Major was reportedly picked up by operatives of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) at the Maraba-Nyanya junction in Abuja.

According to SaharaReporters, the TikToker is currently being detained at the FCID headquarters.

Naijaonpoint understands, however, that the police had not issued any official statement on his arrest as of the time of filing this report.

The arrest followed a series of videos and posts on TikTok in which Major alleged that Senator Buba was compromised and unfit for public office because of alleged connections with armed criminal gangs.

In one of the viral clips, Major reportedly said: “This newspaper (SaharaReporters) described Senator Buba as a senator that has a relationship with bandits. What I want people to understand is that Senator Shehu Buba is a senator from Bauchi.

“There is no newspaper that would publish false allegations against him without taking them to court, because he has the money to do so, and he also has ambition of governorship.

“But because he knows the allegations are not false, that is why he has not gone to court. Up until now, he has not spoken about it because he knows that if he speaks, evidence will be brought forward, and it will affect his ambition to become the Governor of Bauchi State.”

Senator Under Scrutiny

Naijaonpoint understands that Senator Buba, who chairs the Senate Committee on National Security and Intelligence, has faced mounting criticism in recent months.

An alleged peace deal with the wanted terror kingpin Bello Turji.
Allegations of fuelling sectarian tensions in Plateau State.
Past claims of sponsoring bandits to the Hajj pilgrimage.

He also came under fire in Jos for reportedly funding the construction of a multi-million-naira mosque near an existing Abu Huraira Juma’at Mosque belonging to the Dariqa Sufi Brotherhood.

The new mosque is allegedly intended for the Izala sect led by Sheikh Abdullahi Bala Lau, sparking fears of clashes between rival groups.

Christian leaders have also accused the senator of purchasing and demolishing a church to build the mosque, describing the move as provocative.

Buba has further drawn backlash over his role in a proposed peace treaty with Bello Turji, facilitated by Kaduna-based cleric Sheikh Musa Asadus-Sunnah.

Prominent northern preacher Sheikh Murtala Asadah condemned the move, arguing that Turji should face justice for alleged mass killings, kidnappings and village attacks.

He also accused the government of ethnic bias and warned that such moves could cost President Bola Tinubu political support in the North ahead of the 2027 elections.

Beyond national controversies, constituents in Bauchi South have criticised Buba for neglecting unfinished projects in his home base, particularly an incomplete mosque in Toro, while sponsoring a major religious project in Jos.
