JUST IN: Presidency mocks Atiku, Obi, El-Rufai after ADC’s defeat in by-elections

Atiku Peter Obi El Rufai

The Presidency has taunted opposition leaders, Atiku Abubakar of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and Labour Party’s former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, after the All Progressives Congress (APC) secured victory in Saturday’s bye-elections.

Presidential spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, in a post on X on Monday, shared a photo of Atiku, Obi and other ADC members with the caption: “How is the market now?”

Although he did not mention them directly, ... was widely seen as a dig at the opposition camp in the just-concluded polls.

The bye-elections were conducted to fill vacant seats left by lawmakers who either died or resigned after the 2023 general elections.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) secured 12 out of the 16 seats contested in August 2025.

Elections took place across 12 states, though some reports included Zamfara as the 13th, where the exercise was later declared inconclusive.

According to results, APC won 12 seats, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) claimed 2, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) secured 1, while the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) also won 1. The Zamfara contest remains unresolved.
