The House of Representatives will, on December 10 and 11, 2025, vote on items under the ongoing review of the 1999 Constitution.
Naijaonpoint reports that the Deputy Speaker, Benjamin Kalu, who also chairs the House Committee on Constitution Review, made the announcement during plenary on Tuesday.
He told members that the constitutional amendment bill debates will be held this Wednesday and Thursday, ahead of voting next week.
Kalu disclosed that the amendment review had crossed the technical threshold, with harmonised papers now being finalised for lawmakers’ consideration.
He said the committee had completed the technical work required for this stage of the review, adding that it is now preparing the final set of harmonised documents to be laid before members for consideration.
A total of 87 constitutional alteration bills are currently under review. The proposals, according to committee documents, cover electoral reforms, judicial amendments, the establishment of State Police, fiscal adjustments, the creation of new states, and the expansion of local government autonomy.
More specifically, the bills propose equal-opportunity pathways in politics to break gender and structural barriers, grant constitutional space for grassroots governance, and stabilise security coordination at the state level through the introduction of policing frameworks.
