The President of the United States of America, Donald Trump, has been diagnosed with chronic venous insufficiency, a condition causing visible swelling in his lower legs near the ankles, according to his physician.
Naijaonpoint reports that the diagnosis was confirmed during a White House press briefing held on Wednesday, July 17, where Press Secretary, Karoline Leavitt, addressed concerns over recent images showing swelling in Trump’s legs and bruising on the back of his right hand.
Leavitt explained that chronic venous insufficiency is common in individuals in their 70s, noting that Trump turned 79 on June 14. The condition occurs when leg veins struggle to return blood to the heart, often leading to swelling and discomfort.
Trump is the second-oldest individual to serve as U.S. president and holds the record as the oldest to begin a presidential term.
Reading from a note issued by Trump’s physician, Leavitt stated that comprehensive tests had been conducted, including a full blood count, metabolic panel, and various cardiac assessments.
“Importantly, there was no evidence of deep vein thrombosis or arterial disease,” she said, adding that “all results were within normal limits.”
Addressing the visible bruising on the back of Trump’s hand, Leavitt clarified that the marks were consistent with “minor soft tissue irritation,” likely caused by frequent handshaking and his regular use of aspirin, which is part of a cardiovascular health regimen.
When asked if the former president was experiencing any discomfort, Leavitt said he remained in “excellent health” and was not in pain.
