Vice President Kashim Shettima has returned to Abuja after a series of international engagements, including representing President Bola Tinubu at the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York and holding strategic meetings in Germany.
His spokesperson, Stanley Nkwocha, confirmed his arrival in a statement on Thursday, noting that the Vice President had concluded a “highly successful diplomatic mission.”
During his time at UNGA, Shettima earned commendation from UN Secretary-General António Guterres over Nigeria’s ongoing bid for a permanent seat on the UN Security Council.
He reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to multilateralism and expressed the country’s readiness to take on greater responsibilities in global affairs.
The Vice President also used the platform to showcase Nigeria’s $200 billion energy transition opportunity, calling on global investors to partner with the country in delivering sustainable and climate-friendly energy solutions.
He stressed that the transition would serve as both an economic driver and a major source of job creation for millions of Nigerians.
Beyond his UN engagements, Shettima met with senior officials of the United Kingdom Government to discuss strengthening cooperation in trade, defence, and migration. He described the discussions as vital steps toward diversifying Nigeria’s international partnerships and boosting investor confidence.
Before departing for Germany, the Vice President also assured members of the Nigerian diaspora community of inclusive engagement in the Tinubu administration’s policies and programmes.
Shettima’s latest international trip highlights the government’s drive to deepen global partnerships while positioning Nigeria as a key player on the world stage.
