JUST IN: Wike kicks off fresh round of project commissioning in FCT

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has launched another phase of project commissioning and flag-offs across Abuja.

This follows a 16-day commissioning exercise that ended on July 3, 2025.

According to his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, the minister will today, Tuesday, August 19, 2025, inaugurate the fully rehabilitated Phase 2 Water Treatment Plant at the Lower Usuma Dam in Ushafa, Bwari Area Council.

A statement by Olayinka said: “Flag-off of the construction and expansion of water supply to FCT Satellite towns will start tomorrow, with Lot 1; Bwari Township in Bwari Area Council.

“On Thursday, Lot 2; Karu town and environs in Abuja Municipal Area Council will be flagged off by the Minister.”

The Greater Abuja Water Supply Project was inaugurated on June 16, 2025.

FCT Minister Nyesom Wike revealed that during President Tinubu’s 2023 visit to China, the administration signed a fresh agreement to expand water supply to satellite communities such as Bwari, Kubwa, and Karu.

He added that procurement processes for the extensions were nearing completion, assuring residents of timely delivery.
