The Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, may face prosecution in the United States over a $2 million Florida mansion allegedly acquired through questionable means, activist Omoyele Sowore has claimed.
Sowore alleged that Wike violated Florida State laws that prohibit the use of stolen or laundered money to acquire property.
In a post on X, he said the minister purchased the mansion in cash but attempted to conceal ownership by registering it in the names of his wife, Justice Eberechi Wike, a serving Court of Appeal judge, and their children.
Sowore further argued that the arrangement constituted property trafficking and money laundering, which fall under Florida Statute § 812.019 — a first-degree felony punishable by up to 30 years in prison.
He said the “FCT Minister is about to find out in a very hard way” and called on Florida’s Attorney General, Ashley Moody, to investigate the purchase.
The allegations come weeks after West Africa Weekly obtained U.S. public records showing that Wike quietly acquired the property located at 113 Spring Creek Lane, Winter Springs, Florida, in March 2025.
The two-storey residence, built in 1997, sits on a 4,076-square-foot lot and was reportedly registered under the names of his children — Joaquin, Jazmyne and Jordan — as well as his wife.
According to the report, Wike’s name was deliberately excluded from the paperwork in a bid to sidestep asset disclosure requirements and scrutiny over the source of funding.
The $2 million property has since sparked public outrage, as the official salary and allowances of a Nigerian cabinet minister amount to roughly ₦7.8 million (about $5,000) annually — a figure far below the means required to purchase such a mansion abroad.
