THE Former presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dumebi Kachikwu, has criticised the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for recognising former Senate President David Mark as the party’s national chairman.
Speaking to journalists yesterday, Kachikwu described the commission’s decision as “irresponsible,” accusing outgoing INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, of disregarding pending court cases involving the party’s leadership dispute.
Recall that INEC had on Wednesday officially acknowledged Mark as ADC national chairman, alongside former Osun State governor Rauf Aregbesola as national secretary, and Dr. Ibrahim Mani as treasurer.
Kachikwu, however, maintained that the new leadership “is on borrowed time,” stressing that the courts would soon decide the matter.
“It is standard practice to respect cases already in court. Recognising a faction before the ruling is irresponsible,” he said.
He further dismissed the coalition behind Mark, claiming its members—mostly ex-government officials—had failed Nigerians in the past.
According to him, they had nothing new to offer and were merely seeking to return to political office for personal gain.
On whether he would align with Mark’s faction to form a stronger opposition ahead of the 2027 elections, Kachikwu was emphatic: “My generation and the next have capable Nigerians who can rescue this country. We don’t need failed leaders recycling themselves.”
