THE governor of Kaduna State, Uba Sani has reinstated Jonathan Paragua Zamuna as the Chief of Piriga Chiefdom in the Lere local government area, following a ruling from the Industrial Court in Kaduna.
Zamuna was dismissed by the administration of former Governor Nasir El-Rufai shortly before the end of his tenure, based on recommendations from the state Ministry of Local Government Affairs, which cited section 11 of the Traditional Institutions Law No. 21 of 2021.
Dissatisfied with his removal, Zamuna sought justice from the National Industrial Court.
On June 14, 2024, the court annulled his dismissal, declaring it “null and void.”
The court ordered that he be reinstated to his position as Chief of Piriga Chiefdom, along with all his salaries, allowances, and benefits.
During a ceremony at the Council Chambers of Sir Kashim Ibrahim House today, Governor Sani emphasized his administration’s commitment to the rule of law, due process, and justice while presenting Zamuna with his appointment letter.
He congratulated Zamuna on his reinstatement and urged him to treat all members of his Chiefdom fairly, without regard to ethno-religious differences.
The Governor stated that his administration is dedicated to providing equal opportunities for all citizens and encouraged Chief Zamuna to do the same, highlighting that diversity is part of God’s plan.
“I trust you have reflected on the past. The lessons learned will help strengthen your leadership. You now have a unique chance to serve your people with dedication, courage, and compassion,” he remarked.
Sani posed questions about whether their actions have promoted peace or increased divisions within the state, urging individuals and leaders to consider their roles in maintaining peace in Kaduna State.
“Our administration is committed to the rule of law, due process, and justice, which is why we promptly complied with the Kaduna State Industrial Court’s ruling on the reinstatement of the Chief of Piriga Chiefdom,” he stated.
In response, Chief Zamuna expressed gratitude to Governor Sani for his reinstatement, noting that his Chiefdom comprises 12 ethnic nationalities that coexist peacefully.
