Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has suspended the Managing Director of the Kano State Urban Planning and Development Authority (KNUPDA), Arc. Hauwa Hassan Tudun-Wada, as part of a sweeping move to investigate alleged irregularities in urban planning and physical development administration across the state.
The action signals a renewed effort by the state government to tighten oversight of land-use management and address growing concerns over unauthorized developments within Kano metropolis.
Details of the decision were disclosed by the governor’s media aide, Hon. Nanu Kankarofi, who said the administration is determined to restore order to the urban planning sector and ensure strict compliance with existing regulations.
In a related development, the government has established a special investigative committee to examine the activities of KNUPDA and review reports of illegal structures as well as violations of approved land-use policies.
According to officials, the committee was constituted through the Office of the Secretary to the State Government and has been mandated to conduct a comprehensive assessment of the agency’s operations.
The panel will be led by the Director-General of the Kano Geographic Information System (KANGIS), Dr. Dalhatu Aliyu Sani, who also heads the state’s Special Task Force on Illegal Structures.
Government sources said the investigation is expected to uncover the circumstances surrounding disputed planning approvals and determine whether existing procedures were properly followed.
Confirming the development, the Press Secretary in the Office of the Secretary to the State Government, Musa Tanko Muhammad, said the suspension was designed to guarantee a transparent and credible inquiry.
“To preserve the integrity of the investigation, affected officials have been directed to step aside while the committee carries out its assignment,” he said.
The directive also affects KNUPDA’s Director of Architecture, who has been asked to vacate office temporarily pending the outcome of the probe.
Officials maintained that the administration remains committed to enforcing planning regulations and ensuring accountability in agencies responsible for urban development across Kano State.
