KATSINA: Emir dethrones village head over alleged kidnapping, rape

Emir Katsina

THE Emir of Daura, Alhaji Faruq Faruq, has dethroned Iliya Mantau from his position as the Village Head of Mantau in Yarmaulu, Baure Local Government Area of Katsina State, following serious allegations of kidnapping and rape.

The decision came after widespread public outcry and protests by youths in the Yarmaulu community.

Residents accused Mantau and others of abducting a woman named Zulaihatu and her baby, allegedly sexually assaulting her after demanding a ₦20 million ransom.

Despite the matter being in court for nearly a year, the Emirate had delayed any official action, sparking criticism.

While announcing the dethronement yesterday, the Emir emphasized that the Daura Emirate would not condone abuse or injustice.

He reiterated the Emirate’s commitment to justice and accountability—stating that anyone, regardless of status or relation, could be held responsible for wrongdoing.

“This Emirate belongs to the people. Even if my own child is guilty, the people have the right to speak up. We will never tolerate abuse,” the Emir stated.

He added that a new village head will be appointed soon to restore trust and leadership grounded in fairness.

The Emir also warned against the spread of false information and urged residents to seek justice through legal channels.
