THE Federal Government has pledged to ensure that the perpetrators of Tuesday’s deadly attack on worshippers in Malumfashi Local Government Area of Katsina State are tracked down and brought to justice.
At least 32 people were killed when gunmen stormed a mosque in the area. According to state officials, the attackers struck in retaliation for the killing of some of their members by local residents.
In a statement today, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, described the assault as “callous and barbaric,” assuring Nigerians that security forces are actively pursuing those responsible. “No stone will be left unturned until they are apprehended and held accountable for their actions,” he said.
Idris stressed that the attack was not only a crime against the people of Malumfashi but also “an assault on our shared humanity and values as a nation.” He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to intensifying the fight against terrorism, promising that justice would be “swift and decisive.”
The Minister also conveyed President Bola Tinubu’s condolences to the families of the victims, the Malumfashi community, and the Katsina State Government.
“Their grief is our grief, and the Government stands with them at this dark hour,” Idris said, praying for strength for the bereaved and eternal rest for the departed.
The government highlighted recent gains in counter-terrorism, citing the arrest of key terrorist leaders — including Mahmud al-Nigeri and his deputy Abu Abba of the Mahmuda group, as well as Mahmud Muhammad Usman (Abu Baraa) of Ansaru — who were all on international wanted lists.
Idris said these arrests demonstrate President Tinubu’s resolve to dismantle terrorist networks, warning that those who shed innocent blood “will find no hiding place in Nigeria.”
