Katsina State Governor, Dikko Radda, has expressed concern over the devastating impact of insecurity across eight local government areas of the state, warning that the crisis has displaced thousands and disrupted social and economic life.
Naijaonpoint reports that Governor Radda spoke on Monday in Katsina during the launch of an 18-month European Union-funded initiative on Conflict Prevention, Crisis Response and Resilience.
The governor listed the affected LGAs as Jibia, Batsari, Danmusa, Kankara, Safana, Sabuwa, Faskari and Dandume.
“In these communities, children have been kept out of school, parents have buried their children, and elders have fled their ancestral homes. These are unprecedented security and humanitarian challenges,” Radda lamented.
He noted that persistent bandit attacks and communal clashes had led to the closure of schools and markets, mass displacement of residents, and widespread abandonment of farmlands.
Beyond armed violence, Radda said natural resource challenges were aggravating the situation.
He explained that drought, desertification, shrinking farmlands, and outdated land use practices were worsening tensions and driving resource-based conflicts across rural communities.
According to him, the combination of economic stagnation and rising youth unemployment had further created fertile ground for insecurity to thrive.
The governor disclosed that his administration had embraced dialogue and negotiation as key tools in tackling the crisis.
He said community-led peace initiatives had already produced encouraging results in Jibia, Batsari, Danmusa and Kurfi LGAs, while talks were ongoing in Kankara and Safana.
“We are convinced that locally owned peace agreements can help build trust, reduce violence, and restore normalcy in our rural communities,” he said.
Radda stressed that only a combination of security operations, socio-economic investments, and community-driven peace efforts could bring lasting stability to Katsina State.
