Rain katsina

AT least 250 homes were destroyed due to heavy rainfall in Natsinta village, located in the Jibia Local Government Area of Katsina State.

The region has experienced an unprecedented week of rainfall since last Saturday.

While there were no reported fatalities during the three-day downpour, which occurred last Thursday, Friday, and Saturday without interruption, several individuals suffered varying degrees of injuries.

The disaster has left many residents of the affected homes in distress and uncertainty.

The lack of adequate drainage systems in the area was also identified as a contributing factor to the extent of the damage.

A local resident, Mas’udu Lawal, pointed to the disruption of a vital drainage channel as a factor that worsened the situation.

Another victim, identified as Abdurrahman Ibrahim, recounted that residents not only lost their homes but also valuables worth millions of Naira.

Yesterday, August 17, 2024, Hon. Mustapha Yusuf, the representative for Jibia Local Government Area in the Katsina State House of Assembly, visited the affected region.

He assured residents that the Assembly is committed to ensuring prompt government intervention and urged all stakeholders, including government officials, political leaders, and businesspeople, to generously support those affected during this difficult time.

The District Head of Daddara, Alhaji Usman Nagoggo, expressed grave concern over the widespread destruction, which has caused confusion among residents.

He called on government officials and other stakeholders to extend compassion and aid to those impacted.

Displaced residents are struggling to find shelter amidst existing challenges of poverty, insecurity, and food scarcity.
