Umaru Musa Yar’adua University (UMYU), Katsina, has conferred a posthumous honorary Doctorate Degree in Political Science on former President Muhammadu Buhari.
The honour, approved by the Governing Council of the university, was presented during the institution’s 14th convocation ceremony held on Saturday in Katsina.
The university authorities said the award was bestowed in recognition of Buhari’s lifelong commitment to Nigeria’s political development, visionary leadership, and dedication to national unity and national growth.
According to the institution, the late president’s legacy, particularly his contributions to the advancement and strengthening of the tertiary education sector, made him deserving of ...humous recognition.
The university added that the decision to honour Buhari was also intended to encourage reflection on his strides in governance and nation-building, which it described as a guide and source of inspiration for present and future leaders.
Speaking on behalf of other award recipients, a former Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency, Ambassador Ahmad Rufa’i, urged graduating students to uphold patriotism, integrity, and selfless service to the nation.
Rufa’i advised the graduates to channel their education toward building an inclusive society where citizens can live with dignity, peace, and equal opportunities.
Naijaonpoint reports that the convocation ceremony also featured the award of degrees and diplomas to graduating students across various faculties.
Other distinguished Nigerians were equally conferred with honorary awards in recognition of their contributions to national development, as the university celebrated academic excellence and leadership at the event.
