Early Life and  Education

Johnson was born on November 27, 1967, in Boston, Massachusetts, United States.  He was raised by his parents Robert Johnson (father) and his mother whose identity is currently unknown to the general public. He grew up alongside his sister Kathleen. He taught at Tel Aviv University in Israel on a Fulbright Scholarship for a year, from 2007 to 2008.

Johnson attended Groton School, in Massachusetts. He received his Bachelor’s degree in 1988 and Ph.D. 1993 from Harvard University, and his Master’s degree from the University of Chicago in 1989. He taught at Williams College and Arizona State University and worked as a visiting professor at Harvard in 2005. He also worked as a track announcer for many years at Scarborough Downs before attaining his master’s degree.
