President Bola Tinubu has postponed his trips to South Africa and Angola over the recent attacks in Kebbi and Kwara States.
Mr Tinubu was scheduled to travel to Johannesburg in South Africa for the 20th G20 Summit of leaders and to Luanda in Angola to attend the 7th AU-EU Summit.
But due to the attack on a secondary school in Kebbi State by bandits on Sunday night and another at a church in Eruku community in Kwara State on Monday, the President has suspended the trips.
A statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Mr Bayo Onanuga, on Wednesday said Mr Tinubu has directed the military and the police to deploy more men to go after the terrorists.
He was said to be waiting for further security briefings on the two unfortunate incidents from the security operatives.
On Sunday night, bandits abducted about 25 students of the Government Girls Comprehensive Senior Secondary School (GGCSS) in Maga, Kebbi State. The also kílled the school’s vice principal, Mr Hassan Makuku, while trying to protect the female students.
On Monday evening, a Christ Apostolic Church in Eruku was attacked, with some worshippers taken away.
In response to the request by the Governor of Kwara State, President Tinubu has ordered the deployment of more security men to Eruku and the entire Ekiti Local Government Area of the state, and directed the police to go after the bandits who attacked worshippers.
He now awaits reports from Vice President Kashim Shettima, who paid a sympathy visit to Kebbi on his behalf, as well as reports from the police and the Department of State Services (DSS) regarding the attack in Kwara.
The President reiterated his directive to the security agencies to do everything possible to rescue the Kebbi schoolgirls, abducted by the bandits and bring the girls back home, safe.
