The Chief Executive Officer of Konga Group, Prince Nnamdi Ekeh, has called on the Nigerian government to implement policies that foster a level playing field for stakeholders in the e-commerce sector, describing such measures as crucial to strengthening the industry.

In a recent statement to The PUNCH, Ekeh highlighted several challenges hindering the growth of e-commerce, including overdependence on imported goods, volatile exchange rates, logistical inefficiencies, corruption, and rising insecurity.

Despite these hurdles, Ekeh expressed optimism about the future of e-commerce in Nigeria and across Africa, citing the continent’s youthful and tech-savvy population as a key driver of growth.

“With an average age of 17, Nigeria’s population is well-positioned to embrace digital solutions and innovations that will shape the future of e-commerce,” he said.

Ekeh underscored the importance of creating a conducive environment for local businesses, urging the government to enact policies that support indigenous companies and strengthen the broader e-commerce ecosystem.

The statement follows Ekeh’s participation in the 6th edition of the Nigeria Sales Conference, organised by Selling Champion Consulting, where he addressed the theme, “The Nigeria E-Commerce and Retail Business: Challenges and Prospects.”

During the conference held at the Welcome Centre Hotel in Lagos, Ekeh emphasised the need for collaboration between the public and private sectors to address the structural issues facing e-commerce and retail businesses in Nigeria.

He also received an award at the event in recognition of his contributions to the growth of the e-commerce industry in Nigeria.
